If the gifts cited in the "Twelve Days of Christmas" song are on the holiday buying list this year be prepared to spend more than ever.
The overall cost had hit an all-time high of $46,729.86 this year, according to the 2023 Christmas Price Index from PNC Financial Services.
The index, now in its 40th year, is a sardonic take on the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Price Index and gives a unique view on how costs have changed in just 12 months.
The two turtle doves, for example, now cost $750, a 25% hike over 2023. It may be due to the fact the species is getting more rare to find.
The good news is that the price tags for five of the song's items (gold rings, milking maids, dancing ladies, gold rings and calling birds) are the same price as last year.
But when it comes to lords-a-leaping, pipers piping and 12 drummers drumming the cost has risen – 4%, 6.2% and 6.2% respectively.
The partridge in the pear tree has risen double, about 13.9%.
