Holiday shoppers expect to spend the same this year as last but the economy and personal finance concerns are impacting purchase intentions.
That's a top finding from a Circana consumer survey.
The financial worries could delay holiday gift buying, according to a press release.
Consumers plan to spend an average of $754 on holiday shopping this year, which is below last year's spending intentions.
"The consumer is softly thinking about spending less this holiday season," Marshal Cohen, chief retail industry advisor for Circana, said in the release. "Consumers know they will need to spend more to get what they want and are prepared to do so. But they are also cautious about spending too much and will need to continue to prioritize their purchases through the holidays."
