While job applications are up 34% from a year ago June retailers are taking a cautious approach to hiring, with job openings and hires down 14% and 27% between June 2022 and June this year.
Those are findings from the iCIMS July 2023 Workforce Report detailing trends in retail recruitment and the impact of the economy on employment demand.
Yet a slowdown in hiring may not be the right retail strategy according to the report. One reason is that number of applications per opening has jumped 41% which likely means more qualified candidates in the job hiring pipeline.
The data revealed 70% of retail applications last month used a mobile device, compared to 53% of overall job applicants.
