On Black Friday, Americans walk the equivalent of 697 million miles combined, with shoppers averaging 8,347 steps — nearly double the normal daily step count of 4,588.
That's just one fact from a survey conducted by Kuru Footwear that polled 1,000 Americans about Black Friday shopping habits.
Fewer consumers, 43%, plan to shop in person this year, a dip from 50% in 2023, according to a press release on the findings.
In-person shoppers spent an average of 4.5 hours and visited around four stores, with most (60%) saying they spend more time shopping in-person than online. Top reasons for in-person shopping include better deals, doorbuster offers and avoiding shipping delays.
When asked what types of stores Black Friday shoppers primarily visit the survey revealed the following:
- Big box retailers: 75%.
- Department stores: 45%.
- Electronic stores: 45%.
- Outlet stores: 24%.
- Specialty stores: 24%.
- Malls with multiple stores: 34%
