Sam's Club has deployed AI-powered exit technology at more than 120 locations.
The AI and video technology offers customers a more seamless and frictionless exit, according to a press release.
Once a member completes payment a combination of computer vision and digital technology, deployed in the exit area of the club, captures images of carts and verifies payment for all items within a member's basket.
The technology confirms members have paid for all items in shopping carts — without requiring a store associate to check a member's purchases before leaving the club.
The tech debuted at the CES show in January and is the "largest-scale implementation of member-facing AI-powered technology in the retail industry," according to the wholesaler.
Sam's Club plans to deploy the exit technology to all of its clubs by the end of 2024.
"I'm incredibly proud of the innovation and dedication of our team to deploy this member experience technology at scale," Todd Garner, chief product officer at Sam's Club, said in the release.
Sam's Club, a division of Walmart Inc., operates nearly 600 clubs in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
